Aloha - Vintage Gold Plated Enameled Pink Hibiscus Clip-On Earrings. These charming earrings are crafted from a gold plated metal. Featuring enamel-work, and vintage styling. These lovely earrings are made in the form of a tropical hibiscus flower. They are a hot pink color with beautiful hand painted work along the edges of each petal. They have a lovely sheen, which is created by the enamel process. One of the flowers is a wee bit more vibrant than the other, because of the process used to make them. This does not take away from the the beauty of the earrings, and is only noticeable when they are closely side by side. These were made by an artisan, and due to the process in heating the enamel, this can alter the color on the pieces. Personally I feel it gives the earrings character, and confirms that they are not mass produced. They are for pierced or non pierced ears and feature secure clip-on backings. These vintage beauties are sure to bring the tropics into your life. Just gorgeous! 

History: Enameling dates as far back as 13th-century BC. Often made from precious metals with inlays of enamel, its history is traceable through jewelry, accessories, and numerous other works. There is no set destination of the practice's creation as it is documented over thousands of years from all over the world.

The first known gold plating occurred in northern Peru, where Pre-Columbian smiths gilded and silvered copper pieces by electrochemical replacement techniques. During excavations in the late 1980s, archaeologists discovered gold and silver ornamental and ceremonial artifacts dating all the way back to AD 50-300.
