On This Day IN 1908 - Edwardian 18K Gold Diamond Ring.  This breathtaking ring is crafted from 18K yellow gold, and full hallmarks for Birmingham, 18 (for 18K), a makers mark AH & C, and a letter date i for 1908.  Featuring 5 natural Old Mine Cut diamonds, Edwardian styling, and quality gold-work.  The expertly set diamonds have the most beautiful soft glow (a characteristic of Old Mine Cut diamonds). Modern diamonds are different in the fact that they have a blinding brilliance. They are both beautiful in their own way, however the sparkle of Old Antique Cut diamonds have a gentle glow, in which modern cuts can not duplicate. This gorgeous ring exhibits 5 precious diamonds that sparkle like glistening water in the moonlight.   The diamonds in this ring range from a soft mellow yellow colour to a brownish pink (champagne colour) The gallery has a simple elegance, however it still exhibits lovely detail.  The tapered shoulders gives this ring an elegant effect, leading down to a wonderful bevelled shank.  This very special Edwardian era ring, would make a perfect engagement, wedding or anniversary ring.  It is truly a piece to be treasured and enjoyed for many years to come.

Note: An appraisal will accompany this ring.  This contemporary appraisal is based on the value of diamonds and gold. Therefore it does not take the antiquity value into consideration.

Comments: !n 1953, GIA formally created its diamond grading system, known as the 4 C's. The 4 Cs of diamond quality are the universally recognized diamond grading system still to be used today.  1n 1955, GIA presented its first diamond grading reports, which became the hallmark of grading reports in the diamond industry. Before this time in antiquity clients did not care about diamond grading. It was based more so on the size of the diamonds ( according to budget) , style, and sentiment.  This ring is a wonderful example of the Edwardian era. Not often seen with diamonds of this size and champagne coloured diamonds. A true beauty and so rare.

The Edwardian era of the Edwardian period of British history covers the brief reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910, and it extended to the start of the First World War. The death of Queen Victoria in 1901 marked the end of the Victorian era.
