Cleopatra's Treasure - Vintage Sterling Silver Lapis Lazuli Necklace.  This wonderful necklace is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 for sterling. Featuring 9 natural cabochon Lapis lazuli gemstones, Edwardian styling and quality craftsmanship. The pretty necklace is masterfully bezel set with round cut gems, which are indigo blue in colour with flex of gold.  The necklace is a fringe design, with a beautiful triple drop.  The front of the necklace is jewelled, whilst the sides and back of the necklace is comprised with a solid silver flexible curb chain, which allows for a comfortable fit. The necklace is adjustable and features a spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This Vintage necklace compliments any outfit, and can be worn with formal or casual wear. Beautiful and so versatile! 

The history of lapis lazuli stretches back to 7000 B.C.E. in Mehrgarh, situated in modern-day Balochistan, Pakistan. In ancient Egypt, it was a favorite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs. Egyptian burial sites dating before 3000 B.C.E. contain thousands of jewelry items, many of lapis.                                                      
Prized for thousands of years. Lapis was a favoured stone in ancient Egypt, where it was believed to lead the soul into immortality and open the heart to love. The royal stone, it was said to contain the soul of the gods. A metaphysical stone par excellence, Lapis Lazuli is a key to spiritual attainment.It is documented that Lapis Lazuli was one of Cleopatra's favourite gemstones.

Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.
