Jeweled Coronet - Vintage 9K Gold Natural Garnet Crown Ring. This gorgeous ring is crafted from 9K gold, hallmarked 375 (British hallmark for 9K), London assay , and a letter date 'S' for 1973. The ring features one natural oval cut faceted garnet, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring is comprised of a beautiful rich red wine garnet, surrounded by ornate claws and a deeply carved gallery and shoulders. The gallery resembles a beautiful crown, which adds character and beauty to the ring. The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This vintage Georgian Revival ring would make a unique engagement ring, gift, or addition to any vintage jewelry collection.
History: The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
