Roman Splendour - Ancient Roman 3rd -4th Century A.D. 24K Gold & Garnet Beaded Necklace.  This wonderful necklace is crafted from 24K gold, tested.  Featuring 33 natural garnet beads, one natural garnet cabochon, Ancient Roman styling, and quality craftsmanship.  This completely handmade rare necklace is composed with beautiful rich red wine coloured beads, which is secured via a Roman loop-in-loop type chain made from fine 24K gold wire. The focal point being a charming ancient Roman gold and garnet drop. This necklace secured by a fine gold hook and loop closure, enabling these delightful beads to be worn and appreciated today.

Note: Extremely rare necklace. Museum quality and a superb example. Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the value of antiquities. History: The history of garnet dates back to the Bronze Age, more than 5000 years ago. Its name, which has been used since these ancient times, was derived from the Latin word granatium, which means pomegranate (because the small, red crystals were thought to resemble pomegranate seeds).

When Was Gold First Discovered? Dating back more than 5,000 years, when gold was first discovered – albeit usually in small quantities – attracted the eye of early man nearly everywhere. And unlike most metals, gold often appears in nature in its pure form so it need not be refined.

After 450 years as a republic, Rome became an empire in the wake of Julius Caesar’s rise and fall in the first century B.C. The long and triumphant reign of its first emperor, Augustus, began a golden age of peace and prosperity; by contrast, the Roman Empire’s decline and fall by the fifth century A.D. was one of the most dramatic implosions in the history of human civilization.
