Note: Amber is the most well known "stone" for making jewellery and and it is still very valued and precious. The oldest amber found is 170 millions years old. It was found on the island of Bornholm.

Millions of years ago Denmark was under water. The climate was warm and humid. In large mixed forests trees grew, they were tall and probably stood singly. The trees sweat amber and formed large quantities of resin, which were collected in blobs. Large rivers washed the resin clumps into the sea, where they sank to the bottom together with the clay. Over the next millions of years the resin petrified and became amber..the gold of the north.

Scientists do not know for sure, but it is believed that the amber came from a special type of fir, which is now extinct.

The climate changed many times after amber was sweated from those trees, and the glacial streams of the ice ages carried huge quantities of gravel and stone, including the amber, with them to where Denmark slowly emerged from the sea bed.

The vikings found the amber, and since amber is very easy to prepare and form they used it for jewellery.

Amber has been worn as an amulet for protection of health, against bad luck and evil attacks. It is said to bring balance, to absorb the negative energy, to ease pain, and increases life force. It should even heal nerves and bone marrow. It is suppose to help your decision in what you desire and calm your nerves. It emits a sunny and bright soothing energy. When worn around your neck, it assists to cure sore throats. It can even assist in digestive ailments, bleeding teeth, headaches and epilepsy. For many, amber does change negative energy into positive because it is quite simply so beautiful to look at.

Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.

The name was ultimately abbreviated to "Sterling," which is now used to refer to the highest grade of silver metal. The official designation of "sterling" to a piece of silver indicates that it contains at least 92.5% of pure silver. The remaining 7.5% can be comprised of any other metal alloy, most commonly copper.
