Ethereal Drops - Vintage Signed 'Sajen' Sterling Silver Opalite Briolette & Natural Amethyst Earrings. These lovely earrings are crafted from 925 sterling silver, hallmarked 925, and a makers mark Sajen. The earrings feature two opalite faceted briolette (manmade glass ), two natural round cut faceted amethyst, vintage Balinese styling, and quality craftsmanship. These earrings are comprised of expertly bezel-set purple amethyst, which is connected to beautiful opalite drops. The opalite is opalescent, displaying a wonderful glow, and a variation of colours in different light intensities. The earrings are for pierced ears, featuring sterling silver posts, and secure bullet backs. These late vintage earrings work beautifully with today's fashion, and can be worn with your casual or dressy attire. 

History: Ancient Greeks and Romans believed this gemstone could ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus and keep the wearer clear-headed and quick-witted. English regalia were decorated with amethysts during the Middle Ages to symbolize royalty. Amethyst jewelry has been found and dated as early as 2000 BC.

Opalite is a popular man-made, opalescent glass that mimics the appearance of natural opal, characterized by a milky translucent , and iridescent glow that shifts between soft blues, pinks, and purples. Widely used in jewelry and for its purported spiritual calming properties, it is distinct from natural opal. 

Sajen jewelry was established in 1987 in Bali by artists Richard, and Marianna Jacobs. The name "Sajen" translates from Indonesian to "offering," reflecting their design philosophy inspired by Balinese daily offerings. The company is known for using handmade Balinese techniques (granulation, silver beadwork, and scrollwork), sterling silver, and rare natural gemstones. 

The story of silver mining began about 5,000 years ago. Silver was first mined around 3,000 BCE in Anatolia, now located in modern-day Turkey. The precious metal helped early civilizations in the Near East, Ancient Greece to flourish.

The term sterling silver denotes any silver alloy in which pure silver makes up at least 92.5 percent of the content. One theory is that the word sterling comes from the name Easterlings—coiners from east German states brought to England during the reign of Henry II (1154–89) to improve the quality of the coinage.
