History: In mythology, topaz is portrayed as a gem of peace and healing. It was first found by the Romans over two millennia ago on the Island of Topazios in the Red Sea. They believed it could protect its wearer from enemies and bring reconciliation.

The Ancient Greeks discovered white sapphire on the island of Naxos and associated it with Apollo, god of light and sun. Since Apollo was also the god of prophecies, according to legend white Sapphires were offered as a gift to Pythia the priestess of prophecies.

Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.

The world class professional tennis player Evert was in the midst of a highly competitive match during which her string diamonds fell off her wrist, prompting the champion to request a pause for play so she could look for jewels. From then on, the name tennis bracelet was tied to Evert.
