Night Sky - Vintage Platinum Sapphire & Diamond Pendant, 14K White Gold Chain. This classic pendant is crafted from platinum, hallmarked PT900. The chain is hallmarked 14K, and Italy. Featuring a natural oval cut faceted sapphire, 12 natural round brilliant diamonds, classic styling, and high quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this pendant is set with a beautiful indigo blue sapphire, which displays a violet blue hue. The sapphire is expertly claw-set, and has a sparkling diamond surround. The chain is a classic belcher design, featuring a secure lobster claw clasp, in perfect working order. The chain is adjustable, it can be worn at 18"- 20", which allows the chain to be more versatile with what you are wearing. History: The celestial blue color of this gemstone symbolized heaven and attracted divine favor and wise judgment. Greeks wore sapphire for guidance when seeking answers from the oracle. Buddhists believed that it brought spiritual enlightenment, and Hindus used it during worship.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

The metal was used by pre-Columbian Indians but platinum was "rediscovered" in South America by Ulloa in 1735 and by Wood in 1741. Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later.
