Sparkling Buttercup - Georgian French Sterling Silver Natural Rose-Cut Diamond Necklace. This lovely antique necklace is crafted from sterling silver, tested. The chain is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925. The necklace features 4 natural rose cut diamonds, Georgian era styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this early necklace is made in the form of a butter cup flower, and leaves, which are adorned glowing diamonds. There are small traces of a rose gold wash on the pendant (a wash or gild is characteristic of Georgian and early Victorian jewelry). The chain is a vintage piece, which was attached to the pendant at some point in time. The Georgian era pendant looks beautiful when worn, truly a versatile and unique piece to be enjoyed for many years to come.

The term "sterling silver" probably originated in eastern Germany when five towns formed the Hanseatic League in the 1100s. These town minted their own coins of 92.5 percent silver. When Britain sold cattle and grain to the League, they were paid in "Easterling coins".
Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his famous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United States during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
