Sunny Days - Victorian Brass Citrine Glass Brooch. This antique brooch is crafted from brass metal. Featuring an oval faceted glass gem, and victorian styling. This brooch houses a bezel set citrine colored glass gem, which is set in a brass frame. The frame displays a delicate twisted rope pattern, and a flat bezel, which has a lovely aged patina. The pin and 'C' clasp looks original to the piece, and is in perfect working condition. This Victorian era brooch would look wonderful on a wide ribbon to be worn as a choker, or on your favorite item(s) of clothing.

History: The first unmistakable evidence for widespread glass usage comes from the ruins of Taxila (3rd century BCE), where bangles, beads, small vessels, and tiles were discovered in large quantities. These glassmaking techniques may have been transmitted from cultures in Western Asia.

The tradition of Czech glassmaking dates back to the Middle Ages. The remains of the oldest know glassworks, dating to 1250, is located in Kamenický Šenov in Northern Bohemia, which remains the centre of Czech glass production today.

Czechoslovakia became a country in 1918 absorbing Bohemia, which was well known for its quality glass, garnets and beads. The Bohemian glass works produced large quantities of stones and beads as well as complete jewelry which was exported between 1918 and 1939.

The history of brass dates back to ancient civilizations, with artifacts found in various regions, including the Middle East and Europe. It is believed that brass was first created around 5000 BCE when metallurgists accidentally mixed copper and zinc ores during the smelting process.

Brooches developed from the Roman clasp, or fibula, similar to a safety pin, in regions that had been part of the Roman Empire. In the severe climate of northern Europe, the brooch became the characteristic ornament because it routinely functioned as a fastening for a heavy cloak or tunic.

In the history of the United Kingdom and the British Empire, the Victorian era was the reign of Queen Victoria, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901. Slightly different definitions are sometimes used.
