Sway - Victorian English Sterling Silver 'Albertina' Tassel Rope Necklace. This lovely Victorian Albertina necklace is crafted from sterling silver(tested).  It is named after Queen Victoria's husband (Albert). The distinctive Albertina , is much prettier and decorative than the Albert chain , which was used for fobs and watches. Albertina's were often used for jewelry. This Abertina chain is comprised of a solid rope chain and dog-nose clip with an extender, which allows the wearer to adjust the necklace to their desired length. The central portion of the necklace exhibits a dangle with a beautiful chased decorated  hanging tassel. This beautiful Albertina necklace has a fine light patina and is in wonderful antique condition. Truly a wonderful Victorian era piece to be enjoyed and treasured for many years to come.

History. Silver was discovered after gold and copper about 4000 bce, when it was used in jewelry and as a medium of exchange. The earliest known workings of significant size were those of the pre-Hittites of Cappadocia in eastern Anatolia.

Albert chains were named after Queen Victoria's husband. Albertina chains were usually much prettier with decorative features and were worn as jewellery rather than as functional items. Both Albert and Albertina chains were made out of gold, or silver or gold and silver.

In the history of the United Kingdom and the British Empire, the Victorian era was the reign of Queen Victoria, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901. Slightly different definitions are sometimes used.
