Thor's Hammer Amulet - Ancient Viking 8th -11th Century Bronze Pendant. This wonderful artifact is crafted from bronze, featuring quality bronze work , and fantastic design and decoration. The rare piece has a wonderful shape with a raised pattern and an attractive carved out beaded frame. The patina on this amulet is gorgeous, featuring a stunning deep bronze patina with traces of silver, most likely originally silvered. The back of the pendant also has a raised decoration, which is worn down slightly from centuries of wear. The pendant has been matched up with a contemporary bronzed chain, and sturdy sterling and bronze loops and a bale. This rare piece would make a perfect unique gift or addition to any early collection.
Note: The Thor's Hammer is an ancient Norse symbol. In Norse mythology, Thor is the god of thunder and his hammer (called Nojölnir) has the power of lightening During the viking era ascendancy, miniature Thor's Hammers were used as religious amulets. This is a fine example with very nice detail.
