Time After Time - Vintage 10K Gold Cultured Japanese Akoya Saltwater Pearl Hourglass Pendant & Chain. This unique pendant, and chain is crafted from 10K gold, hallmarked 10K. The pendant features two cultured Japanese Akoya Saltwater pearls, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. This lovely pendant is made in the form of an hourglass timer, which exhibits exquisite elegant lines, and two beautiful white pearls, displaying silvery overtones. The pendant is matched up to a box chain, which features a secure spring ring clasp. This vintage pendant is artistic and so versatile that it is suitable for daily wear. 

History: Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.

This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
