Rarities Antique Jewelry

Colour Your World - Edwardian Brass Filigree & Crystal Necklace. This pretty necklace is crafted from brass, featuring Edwardian styling, crystal beads, and filigree work.  The lovely necklace is comprised of a central brass filigree medallion , which is set with blue crystal gems, brass open-worked links, and pastel crystals throughout the necklace. The clasp is original to the piece, however some components of the necklace have been re-worked, such as the crystal beads. The clasp is an antique secure screw-type clasp in perfect working order. This antique necklace is feminine and light and airy, and looks wonderful when worn.

Brass was introduced around 500 BC. Brass is made from an alloy of Copper and Zinc. Since Zinc is rarely if ever found in its natural state, early on people discovered melting copper and calamine (a zinc ore) yielded a golden colored tarnish resistant metal.

Rhinestones which are also known as diamantes or paste date back as far as the thirteenth century where they were first made from Czechoslovakian or Bohemian hand blown glass. The term rhinestone came along later, when rock crystals were discovered in and around the shores of the river Rhine in Austria.
