Color Change Flower - Estate Sterling Silver Alexandrite & Pearl Flower Cluster Ring. This gorgeous ring is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 SS.  Featuring 8 oval cut faceted alexandrite (lab created) gemstones, one genuine pearl, Victorian Revival styling, and quality craftsmanship.  The gallery is expertly claw-set with lavender colored gemstones, which change color to a mauve pink and blue in different light intensities. The centre of the cluster is set with a white lustrous pearl, an alexandrite surround, which resembles a pretty flower. The band is smooth and polished, which allows for easy sizing and a comfortable fit. This gorgeous Victorian Revival ring looks stunning when worn, a wonderful jewelled piece for any jewelry collection.

History: Alexandrite was discovered in 1830 in the Ural Mountains of Russia and named after Csar Alexander II. The original locality for alexandrite is Russia, however, fine gems have also been found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, India, and Burma.

Since the 1960s, labs have grown synthetic alexandrite—not to be confused with simulated alexandrite, which is actually corundum or colored crystals infused with chromium or vanadium for color. Creating synthetic alexandrite is an expensive process, so even lab-grown gemstones can be expensive.

Pearls were presented as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was considered the ultimate status symbol. So precious were the spherical gems that in the 1st century BC, Julius Caesar passed a law limiting the wearing of pearls only to the ruling classes.

Silver was first found in large amounts around 5000 BC, when prehistoric people dug the first copper mines. ... Large-scale silver mining had developed in Anatolia by 3000 BC. This was to meet the demand from the first ancient city states, which used the metal as a common medium of exchange.
