Peacock's Pride - Estate Sterling Silver Blue Opal Ring (ER241)
Rarities Antique Jewelry
Peacock's Pride - Estate Sterling Silver Blue Opal Ring. This gorgeous Estate ring is crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 for sterling. Featuring a lab created oval blue opal, a spectacular design and silver work. The lovely opal is expertly claw-set with a blue opal, displaying flashes of blue, and green, in different light intensities. There is endless amounts of fancy scroll etched filigree work and bead like silver detail (a characteristic seen in ancient and antique jewelry). The shank is polished and smooth, which allows for a comfortable fit, and easy sizing. Truly a stunning Estate Victorian revival ring that would make a very special gift or wonderful addition to any jewelry collection.
History: The discovery of the ordered sphere structure of precious opal led to its synthesis by Pierre Gilson in 1974. The resulting material is distinguishable from natural opal by its regularity; under magnification, the patches of color are seen to be arranged in a "lizard skin" or "chicken wire" pattern.
The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.
