Turn Of The Century - Estate English 9K Natural Ruby & Diamond Scroll Ring. This lovely ring is crafted from 9K yellow and white gold, hallmarked 375 (English hallmark for 9K gold), Birmingham assay, and a letter date for 2000. This ring features one natural round cut ruby, two natural round cut diamonds, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring is crafted from white gold, and designed as a scroll. The scroll is set with a red ruby, which is flanked by two sparkling diamonds. The yellow gold shoulders are beautifully designed into a foliage motif, which off-sets the white gold scroll perfectly. The band is also crafted in yellow gold, which is smooth and polished. This allows for easy sizing, and a comfortable fit. This charming ring would make a perfect addition to any fine jewelry collection.

History: Records suggest that rubies were traded along China's North Silk Road as early as 200 BC. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Burma has been a significant ruby source since at least 600 AD.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

White gold is believed to have originated in the early 19th century. At that time, jewelers were looking for a way to create a metal that had the appearance of platinum but was more affordable. They experimented with various alloys, including mixing gold with nickel, silver, and palladium.
