History: re·pous·se | rə-ˌpü-ˈsā noun. A raised, high relief design on the front of a metal object made by hammering, embossing, or punching the reverse side of the metal to form the design from the back side out. The necklace itself typically sits irregularly low, below the collar bone, and will have items such as tassels drops, or multiple gemstones hanging below the termination. This piece is a lovely Victorian era example.
Silver was discovered after gold and copper about 4000 bce, when it was used in jewelry and as a medium of exchange. The earliest known workings of significant size were those of the pre-Hittites of Cappadocia in eastern Anatolia.
