Golden Times - Victorian English 9K Gold Belcher Chain Necklace. This lovely chain is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked and tested. Featuring Victorian era stying, and quality craftsmanship. Belcher or rolo chains are a popular variation of a cable chain, with round links that are rounded on the outside and flat on the inside. Sometimes, chains with links that are rounded both on the outside and inside are called rolo chains, as well. This particular example is an early piece from the Victorian era. The cylinder clasp looks to be original to piece, and is in perfect working order. This Victorian era chain is versatile. It can be worn alone or with your favorite pendant.

Note: Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the value of antique jewelry.

History: Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

In the history of the United Kingdom and the British Empire, the Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from 20 June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901. Slightly different definitions are sometimes used.
