Splash Of Wine - Vintage Retro 14K Gold Ruby & Diamond Pendant & 10K Gold Chain. This gorgeous pendant is crafted from 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 14K, and 585 for 14K. The chain is hallmarked 10K.  This pendant features 7 natural oval cut faceted rubies, 5 natural full cut round diamonds, vintage retro era styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this pendant is made in the shape of a modified scalloped marquise, which showcases open-work, beautiful vibrant red rubies, and sparkling diamonds. The pendant has a substantial bale, which opens up, giving the pendant a dual purpose of being able to wear it as a pendant or a pearl enhancer. Pearl enhancers are not often seen in todays market, and I must say this one is a beauty! The chain is a box design, featuring a spring ring clasp, which is in perfect working order. This wonderful vintage pendant looks stunning when worn, truly a perfect gift or addition to any fine jewelry collection. 

History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

Records suggest that rubies were traded along China's North Silk Road as early as 200 BC. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Burma has been a significant ruby source since at least 600 AD.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
