Starstruck - Vintage 14K Gold Star-Set Natural Emerald Gypsy Ring. This vintage ring is crafted from 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 14K, and a makers mark A&A. The ring features three natural round cut emeralds, vintage classic styling, and quality craftsmanship. This wonderful ring is expertly 'star set' with three beautiful green emeralds, which adds colour and contrast to the piece. The ring design is known as a gypsy ring, because the stone is star-set flush into the gold band. The band has a slight taper, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. History: Emerald gemstones were mined in Egypt as early as 330 BC, but some estimate that the oldest emeralds are 2.97 billion years old. Cleopatra is perhaps the most famous historical figure to cherish emerald gemstones.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Gypsy rings get their name from the luck associated with the star setting around the stone. A Gypsy setting is whereby the gemstone is sunk into its mount with the table facet flush with the mount surface. There are usually between one and five stones set in the ring. It was a very popular setting in Victorian times.
