Note: In the Renaissance era, the people were obsessed with knighthood and chivalry . This pendant would have been made in the form of a warriors shield. The Renaissance period dates from the 15th century - 18th century.

While the Greeks had created the phalanx (a shield wall held in place by ranks of soldiers), the Romans perfected it. The legionnaires were not only good at the phalanx, they came up with trick formations, like the testudo.

One of the additional major benefits of shield logos is that the shield shape personifies an idea of safety and security. Used since ancient times as protection, shields are associated with shelter from injury or trauma.
