Fireball - Vintage Sterling Silver Natural Baltic Cherry Amber Cabochon Ring. This mesmerizing ring is crafted from 925 sterling silver, hallmarked 925., and a makers mark EU. This ring features an oval shaped natural cherry amber cabochon, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring is expertly set with a beautiful orangey/red cherry amber, which displays an intense vibrant glow in different light intensities. The setting is simple, yet it still exhibits lovely detailing on the gallery and the shoulders. The shank is polished and smooth, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This ring is vintage, however it does have a modernistic feel, which was popular during the 50s and 60s in Scandinavian countries.
History: This was formed about 35,000,000 years ago in the forests that covered an area that is today Scandinavia, the Baltic countries and the Baltic Sea. In some of the countries that surround the Baltic Sea amber is industrially mined and exported in large quantities -- especially from Lithuania, Russia and Poland.
Scientists at the Polish Science Museum speculate about the reddish hues found in cherry amber, they think it is due to resin from deciduous trees, such as plum or cherry trees. The common name used for these amber trees is Pinus Succinifera.
Uncommon colors include red amber (sometimes known as "cherry amber"), green amber, and even blue amber, which is rare and highly sought after.
History. Silver was discovered after gold and copper about 4000 bce, when it was used in jewelry and as a medium of exchange. The earliest known workings of significant size were those of the pre-Hittites of Cappadocia in eastern Anatolia.
The term "sterling silver" probably originated in eastern Germany when five towns formed the Hanseatic League in the 1100s. These town minted their own coins of 92.5 percent silver. When Britain sold cattle and grain to the League, they were paid in "Easterling coins".
