Juicy Gems - Vintage Sterling Silver Watermelon Tourmaline Earrings. These lovely earrings are crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked 925 for sterling, a makers mark DBJ and Thailand. Featuring 2 natural square shaped faceted watermelon tourmalines, modernistic styling and quality silver-work. The watermelon tourmalines in these earrings are expertly claw set, with a supported basket gallery. They display a gentle and beautiful colour change variation of dark green, light green and a purple pink colour. The earrings feature sterling ear-wires for pierced ears. They are delicate and feminine with all the attention being focused on the precious tourmalines. These Vintage earrings would make a unique gift or wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.

Note: The North American state of Maine , where the gem was first discovered a mine in Newry in 1902, is renowned for its stunning watermelon tourmaline. In the early 1970s a large pocket of some of the finest watermelon tourmalines ever seen was unearthed at the nearby Plumbago pit.

As the watermelon tourmaline crystal grows and thickens , it is exposed to different minerals such as manganese and lithium, which cause the gem to change colour from pink centre through a pale zone to the green rind. Brazil , Nigeria, Madagascar , Afghanistan and the United States all produce watermelon tourmalines.
