Mystical Creature - Vintage Victorian Revival 10K Gold Ruby Dragon Ring. This wonderful ring is crafted from 10K yellow gold, tested and confirmed. Featuring two round cut faceted rubies (synthetic), Victorian revival vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. This unique ring is created in the form of a dragon. There is lovely engraved detail throughout the dragon, and vibrant red ruby eyes. The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. The vintage ring is artistic and unique, truly a piece to be enjoyed for many years to come.
History: In 1837, Gaudin made the first synthetic rubies by fusing potash alum at a high temperature with a little chromium as a pigment. In 1847, Ebelmen made white sapphire by fusing alumina in boric acid. In 1877, Edmond Frémy and industrial glass-maker Charles Feil made crystal corundum from which small stones could be cut.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
The first dragon myths appear with the Sumerian legends of the god-mother Tiamat who transforms herself into a legged, horned serpent, and of the snake Zu who steals the law tablets. Dragons appear in Chinese and Indian legends in about 2700 B.C., and in Egypt a creation myth describes the dragon Apep.
