Grecian Goddess - Victorian Gold Wash Carved Cameo Pin Brooch. This lovely pin is crafted from Gold wash over metal. Featuring a genuine carved cameo, Victorian styling, and wonderful detailing. The pretty pin is expertly bezel set with a hand-carved cameo. The cameo looks to be a beautiful goddess wearing a headdress, and draped clothing. The secure cap at the bottom of the pin slides on and screws off. The cameo is craved from a conch shell, with a peachy/Taupe background and a white relief, showing nice detail. This Victorian era brooch would look great on clothing or your favourite hat. Feminine and beautiful!
The Victorian era covers the duration of Victoria's reign as Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, from her accession on 20 June 1837—after the death of her uncle, William IV—until her death on 22 January 1901, after which she was succeeded by her eldest son, Edward VII.
While the birthplace of the cameo was nearly 300 years before the birth of Christ in Alexandria, Egypt, cameos owe their origins to ancient carving traditions. As far back as 15,000 BC, petroglyphs — figures carved into rock — were used to record significant events and communicate information.
