Teal Blue - Vintage 14K Gold Natural Blue Zircon & Diamond Ring. This classic ring is crafted from 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 14K. The ring features one natural oval cut faceted blue zircon, two natural round brilliant diamonds, classic vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on this ring showcases a beautiful blue zircon, displaying bluish/teal hues. The blue zircon is enhanced by sparkling high quality diamonds, which off-set the blue zircon beautifully. The shoulders have a slight taper, which lead down to a smooth and polished shank. This allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This vintage ring would make a unique engagement ring, gift, or addition to any fine jewelry collection.
Note: Appraisal included with the Ring.
History: A gemstone able to withstand incredible pressure, some pieces of zircon date over 4 billion years old. In the middle ages, zircon was believed to promote sleep, as well as bring prosperity, honor, and wisdom to its wearer. The name of this gem comes from the Persian word zargun, meaning “gold-hued.”
During the Middle Ages, people believed that zircon could induce sleep, ward off evil, and bring prosperity and wisdom. In the past, others felt it could heal madness, reduce temptation, and improve intelligence.
Blue zircon was popular during Victorian times and frequently adorned English estate jewelry from the 1880s. Zircon with a cloudy or smoky appearance was popular in mourning jewelry. In the 1920s, heat treatment became customary practice to enhance the color of zircon gemstones for jewelry.
The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.
Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.
