History: It probably originated in the diamond mines of the Golconda district in India and was brought to London around 1726. It was purchased that same year by Friedrich Augustus I, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland and was subsequently sold to Friedrich Augustus II in 1741.

These diamonds are colored either by simple structural defects produced by radiation exposure or by more complex defects involving nitrogen, hydrogen, or nickel impurities. Most of the world's current production of fine natural green diamonds comes from South America or Africa.

Green is a color that symbolizes youth, vigor, activity, and life. It is also the color of nature, abundance, and prosperity. Proposing with a green diamond or incorporating green diamonds into your wedding band can symbolize the fresh start of a new life together.

The largest vivid green diamond that ever appeared at auction is the Aurora Green diamond, a 5.03-carat fancy vivid green diamond that sold at Christies for $16.8 million, or $3.5 million per carat. Green diamonds are rare because the color is caused naturally by radiation deep in the earth.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later. White gold as we know it today was really popularised in the 1920s. Although it might seem strange, this luxury material came to popularity in wartime.
