Antique Coat Of Arms - Victorian English 9K Rose Gold Natural Carved Bloodstone Seal Intaglio Ring. This ring is crafted from 9K rose gold, tested. The ring features a natural oval hand-carved bloodstone, Victorian era styling, and quality craftsmanship. This one features a fantastically carved coat of arms, handcrafted in a smooth mount of 9 karat gold. The oval bloodstone is carved with a shield with and a crown and cross type design, which is topped by a helmet with arrows. The shoulders have a split open-work design, which leads down to smooth and polished shank, which allows for easy sizing, and a comfortable fit.  This Victorian era ring would make a very special gift or addition to any antique jewelry collection.

History: This ancient gemstone was used by the Babylonians to make seals and amulets. Bloodstone was believed to have healing powers, especially for blood disorders. It is sometimes called the “martyr's stone,” as legend tells that it was created when drops of Christ's blood stained jasper at the foot of the cross.

From as far back as 5000BC right up to the 19th century such objects were among the most highly prized in a wide variety of cultures. The origin of the engraved signet-stone can be traced right back to the Sumerian period in Mesopotamia.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his famous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United States during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
