The natural form of cubic zirconia is zirconium oxide, which is yellow in appearance. It was first discovered in 1892, but the mineral wasn't considered to be of any value. Sometime in the early 1930s, interest in the mineral was revived as scientists conducted experiments that included melting the ore. It took many years to invent cubic zirconias; the process lasted from 1892 until 1930 when the first cubic zirconia was introduced. It wasn't until the 1970s, however, that the cubic zirconia, sometimes abbreviated as CZ, was first used in fashion jewelry. This example is a manmade cubic zirconia.
Although the origin of white color gold dates back to 1710, where it was discovered by two alchemists in Germany, it wasn't used widely until much later. White gold as we know it today was really popularised in the 1920s. Although it might seem strange, this luxury material came to popularity in wartime.
