History: Lapis lazuli boasts a rich, millennia-spanning history, prized by ancient civilizations like Sumerians , Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, for its deep blue colour, representing royalty, divinity, and power, used in royal burials (King Tut), cosmetics, and as a precious pigment (ultramarine), sourced primarily from Afghanistan's mines, connecting East and West via trade routes like the Silk Road for over 6,000 years.
. Because natural lapis lazuli—prized for over 6,000 years for its deep blue color—has always been expensive and often difficult to procure, civilizations have long created alternatives to mimic its appearance.
