History: Lapis lazuli boasts a rich, millennia-spanning history, prized by ancient civilizations like Sumerians , Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, for its deep blue colour, representing royalty, divinity, and power, used in royal burials (King Tut), cosmetics, and as a precious pigment (ultramarine), sourced primarily from Afghanistan's mines, connecting East and West via trade routes like the Silk Road for over 6,000 years.

The history of simulated lapis lazuli is as old as the demand for the genuine stone itself, evolving from ancient, rudimentary imitations to sophisticated modern synthetics

. Because natural lapis lazuli—prized for over 6,000 years for its deep blue color—has always been expensive and often difficult to procure, civilizations have long created alternatives to mimic its appearance.
