History: Silver Mining in History. The story of silver mining began about 5,000 years ago. Silver was first mined around 3,000 BCE in Anatolia, now located in modern-day Turkey. The precious metal helped early civilizations in the Near East, Ancient Greece to flourish.

The term sterling silver denotes any silver alloy in which pure silver makes up at least 92.5 percent of the content. One theory is that the word sterling comes from the name Easterlings—coiners from east German states brought to England during the reign of Henry II (1154–89) to improve the quality of the coinage.

Mariner chain links, also known as anchor chains, have a history rooted in nautical culture and practical use on ships. Their design, featuring interlocking oval or round links with a bar across the middle, is inspired by the chains used to secure anchors. Initially, they served a functional purpose, but their strength and unique design eventually caught the eye of jewelers and became popular in fashion.

The Figaro-Mariner chain is a relatively modern hybrid, combining the Italian Figaro chain's alternating long and short links with the Mariner chain's three-link oval design. The history of the separate chains is more established:the Figaro chain originated in Italy and is named after operatic characters, while the mariner chain has deep roots in nautical history, inspired by ship anchor chains and popularized in jewelry by designers like Gucci in the 1970s.
