In Vogue - Vintage Retro Gold Plated Marbleized Lucite Dangly Runway Earrings. These vintage earrings are crafted from gold plate over metal. They feature lucite, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. These earrings are comprised of a beautiful marbled orange lucite, which are enhanced by beautiful polished gold accents. The surmounts are for pierced and non pierced ears, featuring vintage clip-on backings. The wonderful dangle is oval shaped, and articulated in such a way that they have the perfect sway. They are substantial earrings, however light on the ears, which allows for a comfortable fit. This vintage earrings were so in vogue in the 1970s/1980s... so couture!

History: Developed by DuPont in 1931 and launched in 1937, Lucite is a brand name for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a durable, transparent acrylic resin. It gained prominence during World War II for military aircraft canopies and periscopes due to its clarity and strength. Post-war, it became a staple in 1950s fashion, jewelry, and Mid-Century Modern furniture.

The process was invented in 1805 by Italian chemist Luigi Brugnatelli who plated a very thin gold layer on top of silver. Since then, it has become commonplace in the jewelry world, with many base metals covered in gold, silver, or rhodium.
