Pink Passion - Vintage Platinum Natural Pink Sapphire & Diamond Ring. This lovely ring is crafted from platinum, hallmarked Pt 900 for platinum.  Featuring a natural oval faceted pink sapphire, 2 natural round brilliant cut diamonds, classic vintage styling and quality custom craftsmanship. The expertly claw-set sapphire takes centre stage in this ring, displaying a beautiful vibrant pink colour, with a purplish/pink hue. The sapphire is enhanced by bright white sparkling diamonds. The gallery on this ring is classic, and features a low profile setting, which makes for easy wearing. The shoulders are slightly tapered, leading down to a substantial smooth and polished shank, which allows for a comfortable fit and easy sizing. This vintage ring would make a unique engagement, anniversary ring, or wonderful addition to any fine jewelry collection.

Note: Appraisal included with the ring.

Comments: Exquisite ring.  Beautiful intense pink colored sapphire.

History: Origin. Pink sapphires have become more available since new deposits were found in Madagascar in the late 1990s. Until that time, pink sapphires were considered exceptionally rare since they were only found in a few locations around the world, the most popular locations being Sri Lanka, Myanmar and East Africa.

The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

As with the history of gold, the history of platinum begins with the ancient Egyptians, who, more than 3,000 years ago, created gold jewelry with traces of platinum. The gold was not alloyed with platinum intentionally however; it was more likely just a natural component of the ores the Egyptians imported from Nubia.

Platinum was officially “discovered” by Spanish mariner Antonio de Ulloa in 1736 in Colombia and he wrote the first scientific description of the metal. This led to platinum being studied by scientists who were intrigued by its resistance to corrosion and their inability to melt it.
