Sentimental Intricacies - Vintage 9K Gold Crystal Silk Lined Filigree Locket. This unique locket is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 375 for 9K gold. Featuring Vintage styling, crystal gems, silk lining, and quality craftsmanship.  The gorgeous locket is comprised with pierced filigree work, and delicate milgrain detail, which borders the gold foliage decoration. The back of the locket is a solid gold polished and smooth casing, and the front and the bale is adorned by clear white sparkling crystal.  The inside of the locket has its original plastic covers and beautiful pink silk inserts.  The silk inserts can be changed to any colour fabric to give the locket an entirely different look. I must say a cobalt blue, or emerald green silk fabric would be just as stunning as the pink.  A 14K yellow gold fill chain has been matched up to the locket, featuring a secure spring ring clasp in perfect working order.  This Vintage locket displays detail that is so unique, the effect of the pierced filigree is just exquisite. Truly a wonderful addition to any fine jewelry or locket collection.

History: Rhinestones which are also known as diamantes or paste date back as far as the thirteenth century where they were first made from Czechoslovakian or Bohemian hand blown glass. The term rhinestone came along later, when rock crystals were discovered in and around the shores of the river Rhine in Austria.

One such date is 2600 B.C., when gold was discovered by the ancient Mesopotamians and used to create some of the world's first gold jewelry. A little over a thousand years later, in 1223 B.C., gold was used to construct the tomb of iconic Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun.
Lockets evolved from ancient amulets to mementos... growing increasingly prominent by the 19th Century. European designs date back to the 16th Century, where small pendants were worn to ward off evil spirits. One of the earliest known examples of a locket with a picture in it is Queen Elizabeth I's ring.
