History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.

The modern round brilliant diamond was perfected in the early 20th century by Marcel Tolkowsky, a Belgian mathematician, who used scientific calculations to define the ideal 58-facet shape for maximum brilliance and sparkle. The cut evolved from earlier rose cuts and Old European cuts, with advancements in technology like the bruting machine and power-driven saws facilitating more precise and symmetrical shaping. This scientific approach and technological progress resulted in the most popular and widely used diamond cut today.

The name is derived from the Spanish platina, meaning "silver." Platinum was discovered in South America independently by Antonio de Ulloa in 1735 and by N. Wood in 1741, but it had been in use by pre-Columbians.

Stuller was founded in 1970 by Matt Stuller in Lafayette, Louisiana, starting as a wholesale supplier of jewelry findings and growing into the largest manufacturer and distributor of jewelry products in the United States. The company's success is attributed to Matt Stuller's focus on customer service, technological innovation like overnight shipping and laser welding, and a vast product catalog that serves jewelry professionals globally.
