This lovely ring is crafted from 14K white, rose, and yellow gold, hallmarked 14K, and a makers mark A & S for Arnold & Steere. Featuring a fancy emerald cut pink sapphire (synthetic), exquisite filigree work, and quality craftsmanship.  The gallery on this ring showcases an expertly double claw-set bubble gum pink sapphire, which sparkles beautifully. The gallery exhibits exquisite filigree work, and a rose gold 'forget me knot' on each side of the gemstone. The shank is polished and smooth, which allows for easy sizing, and a comfortable fit. This Art Deco era ring is feminine, and oh so charming! Truly a piece to be treasured for many years to come.

Note: This ring ticks all the boxes. It is set with a desirable pink sapphire, in wonderful condition, and the ring still has its full hallmarks of the metal purity and the highly collectible makers mark A&S for Arnold & Steere.

Contemporary appraisals no not reflect the antique value of a piece.

History: Pink sapphires have become more available since new deposits were found in Madagascar in the late 1990s. Until that time, pink sapphires were considered exceptionally rare since they were only found in a few locations around the world, the most popular locations being Sri Lanka, Myanmar and East Africa.

The pink sapphire symbolises love, truth and feminine power. Thanks to their durability, meaning and delicate colour, pink sapphires are perfect for engagement rings.

The earliest synthetic gems were Geneva Rubies, produced around 1885, and sold as authentic gems. However, they were actually "reconstituted" fragments of natural rubies melted together. While the creator of these stones remains a mystery, researchers traced their origins to Geneva, Switzerland.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

The history of White Gold dates back to 1710, when it was composed by alchemists Johan Frierich Bottger and Ehrenfried Walther Von Tcshirnhaus in Germany. In 1752, another metal resembling White Gold was introduced, with a grey finish. White Gold as we know today was created in 1920's.

Rose gold was first used in early 19th century Russia by the famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his famous Faberge Eggs, as was known as Russian Gold. Rose gold later gained popularity in the United States during the lavish and feminine 1920's, and was worn in engagement rings and fine jewelry.

The Art Deco period encompasses the 1920s and 1930s. The style began to emerge around 1915, just after WW1 when there was a huge amount of optimism in the air. The dates for Art Deco jewelry also extend from 1960s when there was an Art Deco revival which has continued until the present day.
