Autumn Leaves - Vintage Gold Plated Aurora Borealis Crystal Rhinestone Clip-On Earrings. These lovely earrings are crafted from gold plate over metal, hallmarked PAT PEND. The earrings feature four marquise shaped faceted crystal rhinestone, two round cut aurora borealis crystal rhinestones, 4 round cut faceted crystal rhinestones, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. These pretty earrings are comprised of warm colours such as amber, cognac coloured crystals, and colour change aurora borealis crystals. The back of the earrings are clip-ons for pierced and non pierced ears. These vintage earrings would make a wonderful addition to any vintage jewelry collection. 

History: Rhinestones, while now commonly thought of as imitation gemstones, have a history rotted in natural rock crystals found along the Rhine River.  These stones, initially collected and cut, inspired the creation of glass-based imitations. Key figures in this development include Georg Friedrich Strass, who pioneered a method for coating glass with metal powder to create the appearance of diamonds, and Daniel Swarovski, who revolutionized production with a cutting machine. 

Gold plating on jewelry has a rich history, dating back to ancient civilizations like Egypt and Rome. The modern process of electroplating, which is commonly used today, was developed by Luigi Brugnatelli in 1805. This method allowed for more affordable and accessible gold-look jewelry, becoming popular during the Art Deco era and World War II.
