The earrings feature two natural oval cut black onyx gemstones, Edwardian revival styling, and quality craftsmanship. The gallery on these earrings showcase expertly claw-set blacker than black, black onyx gemstones, which are surrounded by a decorative scroll type open-work detail. They are for pierced ears, and feature shepherd hook ear wires. These classic earrings are versatile enough for daily wear and look great with everything, and anything!

History: The Black Onyx stone has a long history of being associated with protective powers across many cultures including Ancient Greeks and Romans, Persian, Chinese and Indian. Throughout history, the stone has not only been used in amulets and jewellery, but also in carved cameos.

The story of silver mining began about 5,000 years ago. Silver was first mined around 3,000 BCE in Anatolia, now located in modern-day Turkey. The precious metal helped early civilizations in the Near East, Ancient Greece to flourish.

By about the 12th century in England, silver coins were called "Easterlings," a word later abbreviated to "sterling." In 1300, King Edward I made the definition official by declaring that sterling silver had to be 92.5 percent pure silver and should be marked by "guardians of the craft."
