Sway The Night Away - Vintage Rhodium Plated Austrian Crystal Rhinestone Clip-On Earrings. These gorgeous earrings are crafted from Rhodium plated metal, marked Austria. They feature numerous round cut faceted crystal rhinestones, vintage styling, and quality craftsmanship. These vintage earrings consists of a diamond shaped surmount, and a tear-drop shaped dangle, which are adorned with beautiful sparkling crystals. The back of the earrings feature clip-on backings, which can be worn on pierced and non pierced ears. These vintage earrings are perfect for any formal occasion.

History: The term "rhinestone" originates from the Rhine River, which flows through several European countries. In the early days, naturally occurring rock crystals were collected from the river's banks. These crystals, resembling diamonds in their raw form, were initially the only source of rhinestones.

Rhodium has been used as a coating for jewelry and silverware since the 1930s. It was also used as a plating for cigarette lighters and writing instruments during that time. One of the many companies that used rhodium plating was the Ronson Lighter Company, which produced many art-deco style items in the 30s.
