Starstruck - Vintage 10K Gold Natural Diamond Engraved Locket Pendant & 14K Gold Fill Chain. This lovely locket is crafted from 10K gold, hallmarked 10K and a makers hallmark JLX. The chain is 14K gold filled, hallmarked 1/20 14K GF.  The locket features one natural round cut diamond, vintage era styling, and quality craftsmanship. The pretty locket is oval shaped, and exhibits a central star-set diamond, and an exquisite delicate diamond cut engraved border, which adds character, and sparkle to the piece. The locket is plain on the reverse side with a perfect polished finish. The bale is tapered and delicate, however sturdy enough to support the locket. The inside of the locket opens and closes nicely, with the perfect 'click' sound we like to hear once closed shut. The locket looks wonderful with the chain, which features a spring ring clasp in perfect working order. This vintage locket would make a perfect gift for that special someone, or addition to any fine jewelry collection. 

History: History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road. 

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Lockets evolved from ancient amulets. European designs for lockets appear to date to the 16th century, when small pendants were worn to conceal good luck charms, small fabric squares soaked in perfume to ward off the poor smells on public thoroughfares, painted portraits, and even, on occasion, poison.
