Heart Of Glass - Vintage 10K Gold Sterling Silver Ruby & Crystal Heart Pendant. This wonderful pendant is crafted from 10K yellow gold, and sterling silver, hallmarked 10K and 925 sterling.  The chain is crafted from 14K Gold Fill. Featuring a genuine round cut ruby, crystal, and Vintage styling. This beautiful pendant is designed as a bow over a heart, meaning: A gift of my Heart.  The bow is crafted in sterling silver, whilst the bale is made of 10K gold.  The bow is adorned with an expertly set vibrant ruby gemstone, which adds a touch of colour to the piece.  The crystal heart is faceted and clear, which looks lovely when worn. The pendant can be worn on a ribbon, or a silver or gold chain.  It is in the Georgian Revival style, and so versatile and wonderful!

History: Rubies have been particularly prized in Asian countries. Records suggest that rubies were traded along China's North Silk Road as early as 200 BC. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Burma has been a significant ruby source since at least 600 AD.

Gold was generally used for a couple thousand years solely to create things such as jewelry and idols for worship. This was until around 1500 BC when the ancient empire of Egypt, which benefited greatly from its gold-bearing region, Nubia, made gold the first official medium of exchange for international trade.

Silver's history is long. The first evidence of silver mining dates back to 3000 B.C., in Turkey and Greece, according to the RSC. Ancient people even figured out how to refine silver. They heated the silver ore and blew air over it, a process called cupellation.
