History: Glass Jewelry has a rich history spanning over 3000 years, beginning with ancient Egyptian faience beads, and evolving through Roman glassblowing. Throughout history, it has been used both as high-fashion adornment—such as Venetian millefiori and Georgian paste—and as affordable, colorful fashion jewelry, notably with Vauxhall glass and 20th-century costume pieces.
The history of gold-filled jewellery traces back to early 19th century England, where this technique was patented to create semi-precious and better-quality custom jewellery during the Victorian Era.
As long as gold filled pieces are well cared for, they can last a lifetime. Gold plated pieces, on the other hand, can last up to a year if kept away from water, wear, and heat. It's also worth mentioning that gold filled pieces with lower karat weight (9-14k) may be more durable than pieces with greater gold content. Victorian gold filled jewelry can last for centuries.
The Edwardian era corresponds to the reign of King Edward VII in Great Britain, whose short-lived governance (1901-1910) followed Victoria's long reign and preceded the modern House of Windsor in England. The "Edwardian" style broadly encompasses the years of 1901 through to 1919
The Art Nouveau was a short -lived but impactful international decorative style (c. 1890-1910) aimed at breaking down traditional distinctions between fine and applied arts. Characterized by flowing, natural forms, "whiplash" curves, and floral imagery, it sought to create a modern style free from historical imitation. It influenced architecture, jewelry, and graphic arts, peaking briefly before World War I.
