Rarities Antique Jewelry
Extremely Scarce - Ancient Viking Circa 800-1100 A.D. Bronze & Silver Moth Pendant. This amazing artifact is crafted from bronze, the contemporary chain and setting is sterling silver. The chain is a very fine quality, hallmarked 925, Italy. Italian chains are known for being hand finished so the chain is smooth and comfortable to wear. The moth pendant is exquisite , with its wonderful detail, markings, and aged bronze patina. The detail on the moth is raised and the markings are black in colour, even the black eyes are part of the decoration, whilst the patina is a soft green/grey colour, expertly set by a master goldsmith in a sterling silver aged (oxidized) setting. The sterling silver backing allows for more stability, and so it can be worn with its hand-made bale. Ancient meets contemporary, and the effect is just wonderful, and so beautiful. Truly a rare piece to add to your collection or to be gifted to that special someone.
History: Norse Mythology. In Norse mythology, white moths are symbols of divine messages and spiritual transformation. They are believed to be the souls of warriors, carrying messages from Odin or other gods. The presence of a white moth is considered a sign to adapt spiritual practices and start a spiritual journey.
Around 3500 BC the first signs of bronze usage by the ancient sumerians started to appear in the Tigris Euphrates valley in Western Asia.
