Note: Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antiquity value of antique jewelry.  Value is based on gems and metal, however age, condition, workmanship, desirability and rarity is also taken into consideration. Antique jewelry is more so object driven.

History: Emeralds ... Its name comes from the ancient Greek word for green, “smaragdus.” Rome's Pliny the Elder described emerald in his Natural History, published in the first century AD: “… nothing greens greener” was his verdict. ... The first known emerald mines were in Egypt, dating from at least 330 BC into the 1700s.  Emerald was one of Cleopatras favourite gemstones. This is known from documentation.

In History of the United Kingdom, the Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on the 22nd of January 1901.
