This charming ring is crafted from 14K yellow gold, hallmarked 14K.  Featuring one natural round cut emerald, 6 natural antique rose-cut diamonds, Victorian styling and quality gold-work.  The ring boasts an exquisite gallery of precious jewels, a vibrant green emerald takes centre stage with a contrasting surround of glowing diamonds.  The gallery is open backed , which allows for easy cleaning. The shoulders exhibit lovely detailing, which adds interest and beauty to the piece.  The band is dainty, yet substantial for everyday wear.  This Victorian era ring would make a unique engagement ring, gift or addition to any fine jewelry collection.

Note: Contemporary appraisals do not reflect the antiquity value.

You cannot look at rose cut diamond jewelry factually with a recut formula in mind, its value is object driven. Rose cuts are a greater challenge in estimating weight once they have been mounted (especially if they are closed back). These rose cut diamonds are hand cut, which makes them so special . This is a rare find. The rose cut diamond setting has an open back ( a characteristic of late Victorian jewelry).

In 1953, GIA formally created its diamond grading system, known as the 4 C's. The 4 Cs of diamond quality are the universally recognized diamond grading system still to be used today.  1n 1955, GIA presented its first diamond grading reports, which became the hallmark of grading reports in the diamond industry. Before this time in antiquity clients did not care about diamond grading. It was based more so on the size of the diamonds ( according to budget) , style, and sentiment.  This ring is a wonderful example of the Victorian era, just beautiful!

History: Emeralds ... Its name comes from the ancient Greek word for green, “smaragdus.” Rome's Pliny the Elder described emerald in his Natural History, published in the first century AD: “… nothing greens greener” was his verdict. ... The first known emerald mines were in Egypt, dating from at least 330 BC into the 1700s.  Emerald was one of Cleopatras favourite gemstones. This is known from documentation.

In History of the United Kingdom, the Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on the 22nd of January 1901.
