Star Burst - Vintage 9K Gold Diamond & Opal Cluster Ring. This gorgeous ring is crafted from 9K yellow gold, hallmarked 9K and 375 (British hallmark for 9K gold) and a Birmingham hallmark. Featuring 12 natural marquise cut cabochon opals, 8 natural brilliant cut diamonds, Vintage styling and quality craftsmanship. The eye catching ring is composed of marquise shaped opals, which are claw-set into 3 separate tiers, inter-spaced by gently curved streaks of claw-set sparkling diamonds. The opal gemstones emanate a variety of bright colours under interchangeable light intensities. All the gemstones are in pristine condition and exposed to the ring's reverse side for easy cleaning access. The upper regions of the shank are attractively bifurcated with open-work between. The shank is smooth and polished, which allows for easy sizing, and a comfortable fit. The Vintage ring is unique and so pretty. A wonderful addition for any fine jewelry collection.
History: The earliest diamonds were found in India in 4th century BC, although the youngest of these deposits were formed 900 million years ago. A majority of these early stones were transported along the network of trade routes that connected India and China, commonly known as the Silk Road.
Many cultures have credited opal with supernatural origins and powers. Arabic legends say it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth.
Dating back more than 5,000 years, when gold was first discovered – albeit usually in small quantities – attracted the eye of early man nearly everywhere. And unlike most metals, gold often appears in nature in its pure form so it need not be refined.
