History: Turquoise was one of the first gemstones ever mined, perhaps dating back to 6000 BC, in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. ... Turquoise has been mined in Iran for over 3,000 years. It has been used for thousands of years for jewelry by the Ancient Egyptians, who buried fine pieces with mummies.

Turquoise is very often mottled, featuring natural variations in color and intricate patterns from its surrounding host rock. This "matrix" can appear as a network of brown, black, or other colored veins and patterns, adding to the stone's unique character and contributing to its value and beauty.

The mottling is caused by the presence of other minerals that form alongside the turquoise. These minerals become part of the "matrix," which is the remnant of the surrounding rock.

Gold was first discovered as shining, yellow nuggets. “Gold is where you find it,” so the saying goes, and gold was first discovered in its natural state, in streams all over the world. No doubt it was the first metal known to early hominids. Gold became a part of every human culture.
