1920s Classic - Art Deco English Platinum Wedding Band Ring. This classic wedding band is crafted from platinum, hallmarked PT 999, and a makers mark A&W.  The ring features a classic art deco design, high platinum purity of 99.9 %, and quality craftsmanship. This very special ring is made in the form of a simple, yet elegant platinum classic wedding band. The ring is dainty, yet solid and substantial. The ring has wonderful smooth edges from age, which feels so comfortable to wear. The band has a smooth and polished finish, which allows for easy sizing. This Art Deco era ring would make a perfect heirloom piece to be cherished and enjoyed for many years to come.

History: The name is derived from the Spanish platina, meaning "silver." Platinum was discovered in South America independently by Antonio de Ulloa in 1735 and by N. Wood in 1741, but it had been in use by pre-Columbians.

Jewelry marked only “Platinum,” “Pt” or “Plat” contains at least 95-percent pure platinum. Platinum content can also be marked by 999 for 99.9% pure platinum, 950 for 95% and so on. In the U.S., jewelry containing less than 50-percent pure platinum cannot be marked with the word “Platinum” or any abbreviation thereof.

The ``999'' stamp on this platinum ring indicates that the metal is 99.9% pure platinum. This is a high standard of purity, often referred to as ``three nines fine.'' In the context of precious metals, the higher the purity, the more valuable the item is likely to be.
